I posted this over on the eD forum and everyone seemed to like it, so I'm posting it here now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Finished my box yesterday (added in the t-nuts and got my stainless bolts), and got my k's the day before, so this morning I finally got it all together... And I'm quite happy with the result

I didn't really take much in the way of pics, during construction, unfortunately - The box was originally built to be a quick-toss-in-a-15 box, but after putting a bunch of work into it, it came out great, so I thought I'd go ahead and make it a real nice one. Here's a pic of me removing the front panel - notice the shards of wood remaining! I literally had to chisel all those pieces off... Liquid nails rocks!

Oh, I do have a pic of the construction of the trim panel. 1/2" plywood & bondo:

The raised 'e' is simply a 1/8" thick foam cutout of the emblem 3m adhesived to the box, then I vinyl'd over it. Sorry, no pics - took about 10 minutes, though. The curved edge is much simpler than it looks, too; I just sanded down the corner, then bondo'd a bit - that's it

well... I say that's it, but it WAS one heck of a bunch of sanding... But well worth it!

Anyway, I tossed it in the car temporarily tonight (I've got a **LOT** of work to do before I'm ready to permanently install), and ****... I can't remember who recommended the eD K's - Thank you *SO* much!! I'm shocked at the SPL increase when compared to my old XPL 15. Probably a good 6-8 db up, easily! *AND* it sounds better, too!

Anyway, yippee, I'm happy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

When I put it in temporarily (still a lot of work to do before I'm ready to lock it down) earlier, I was very impressed! Problem is, though, I was just doing sine-wave music (bass stuff). I started putting music to it today, though, and started noticing that it seemed to lose a lot of extreme low bass & boost severely (to the point of distorting quite a bit) at very high bass ... Very disturbing... Then I realized

Right now I'm waiting on my amp for my highs to come in, so I'm still running stock speakers off of my head unit. The unit has built-in high pass crossovers, so it actually sounds ok........ Therein, however, lies the problem; I ran the RCA's off my front output, which is HP crossed over! Thus, I was running 85hz high pass at 12db/oct, and 80hz low pass (from my 30-band) at 24db/oct! LOL... The amp was clipping at around 80 or so, and way under once I dropped into the 40's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

****... When I switched over to my NF out on my head unit, the world suddenly came into focus.... I love these subs... This is a bit unhealthy!

well from the angle of that pic...the carpet and subs look the same color....wanna get some more pics? Would really appreciate it because I have 2 12k.44 myself...

BTW - you need to change your sib defiance, it's outdated. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

It's vinyl - not quite flush, it's as close to the same color as I could find, matches very well. I'll try to get some other pics. Fixed the sig //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

how'd you get the vinyl to stick to the "e" like that? i was thinking about doing something similar, but not quire the "e". i also did check out your post on SIN, and it was great. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Basically, when I was at a fabric store looking at their vynil, I saw this thin foam. it's about 1/8" thick or so, and very light. I just cut it out to the shape of the 'e', then used 3m 77 adhesive to stick it to the box, gave it a while to stick nice, then vinyl'd normally after that. I heated the emblem area just a bit with a heat gun to make sure the vinyl was streteched nice and the adhesive wouldn't release in thin spots (like the spot in the middle of the 'e'), but other than that, it was too easy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Very nice man.. dont be surprised if you see me using similar techniques in the future! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Great work.
