Heres a pic of the RF1001bd that burnt up in my car for unknown reasons. Notice the fried and melted coil and the blistered-white output transistors. The Gain was set at zero when this occured. Anybody have an idea of what could cause this type of damage? Anyway, I was running 2 PG Titanium 15's. I'm currently running the whole system off a 851x with 1 15, gains jacked all the way up. The amp gets so hot you can fry an egg off of it. I can tell it won't last long. I'm putting the 2nd 15 back in its original box for a back up. I need a good quality amp to run 1 of my 15's to bring back my thump. Looking to give the one sub a solid 500+ watts. My price range is $250. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Go read the gain setting tutorial, properly set your gains, and then come back.

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/word.gif.64b12e39f936af3b4fff38a1c0bd0244.gif its not kool to burn up amps, unless your filthy rich... even then, is it kool?

These series amps don't put out that much unless you get a bass remote for it. I felt like turningmy gains all the way up till I bought one of those remotes. But I guess it's too late now. You tryin to sell it? I'll pay shipping

The RF1001BD gain was set all the way down when the malfuntcion occured. The 851x requires both gains set at least 75% to get any decent sound without turning the volume up above 20. The head unit I have sounds best when your "loud" is at about 18 volume wise. You dont want to have to turn this head unit above 25 for an optimum setup. I've never needed the remote. The EQ takes care of that. Keep in mind I've got 2 set of comps running off one half, and the 15 bridged off the other for the 851x. I probably will set the gains a little lower to keep the heat in check..even if i will have to turn the head unit voume up to about 30...

my 1000bd kept taking a crap on me. i paid like 500 or so from tech auto sound in endicott ny. i kept taking it back and getting it fixed. rockford finally sent me a new one after repairing it a bunch of times. blew after a couple of weeks. have had same problem with other rockford amps. get too hot too quick

Seriously though how were the subs wire when the 1001 was hooked up? whats the vc config? With the new amp running how is the sub wired? Deck settings? amp settings?

untrue...Flakko's nick name is also Ozzy......//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Before the burn-up I had the deck set at 0 bass, 0 treble...nice flat line. Gains on sub amp was maybe 1 click above 0, highs were set to about 30% gain on the amp for the comps. I could get it going nicley at about volume level 18 on the deck. Eq was pretty much flatlined, with a few minor bumps in the midrange. 2 Single 4 0hmVC PG 15's, wired into the 1001bd. I believe the amp was getting a 1 ohm load, about 500 watts a sub. Sealed enclosure. CDT comps. With the system running off the 851x, the gains are turned about 60%, 1 15 bridged off the back, 2 cdt sets off the front. deck: bass 1, Treble 1, Optimum volume level about 25-26...

P.S....Whats up with Flakkos Pic? Is that really him? ummm...looks like an asian Liberachi....and I'm not saying thats a bad thing..but..you sure he wont bite?P
