My amp won't stay on

I have a problem.... the only way my 5000w amp will stay on is if I jump the 12v to the remote and also keep the remote wire hooked up. If i hook just one up (either one) the power light comes on, but immediately fades and the amp loses power. Why is the amp only staying on with power from the remote wire AND the jumped 12v? I can't keep it like this because it shorted out my wiring harness and I just fixed it. Please help!!!

It works with a different amp, and I tested it and it's ok... and the amp works great and sounds good when i hook up both the bridge and remote wire.... is there any fixes, or is the amp defective?? And if so, can I fix it?

measure the dc voltage on the amplifier remote terminal and ground terminal with the headunit on. the remote wire should be making good contact with the amp. it needs to be more than 12v. tell me what it reads
