my amp sparked, smoked, but still works. why?

i was tightening the connection on my power to the amp, and my screwdriver hit the amp. massive sparks, the amp smoked for a few minutes. but it still plays like nothing happened. why is this?

because i want to know what kind of damage it could have done. it was smoking thru the vents on the amp. so it was inside where something got fried

it might not have done any damage... you just created a short between your screwdriver (+) and the amp's heatsink (-) it is possible that the components inside the amp aren't grounded to the case and you just had a lucky day... learn from it

so if theyre not grounded to the case, i should be ok? it plays just fine. it just smoked ALOT and had some big sparks to it. im online right now looking for a new amp just incase i might need one. if it has potential to blow because of this, i might as well get an amp now and wait for this one to die.

it sparked when the screwdriver touched the side of the case. the amp itself is metal, so that could cause a spark, not nessicarily meaning its grounded.

not negitive, always the power wire by the battery, it you disconnect the negitive you still have power back there, and everything is a ground in a car pretty much. shitty explanation but yea always the power
