My amp is to large. what to do?

Its only a single w0 so i cant wire in series/parallel.

If i keep the volume low will the sub get a low enough power?

I am going to use a loc right at the factory sub so i have a setting on my deck to lower the sub. Will this lower the power the sub recieves?

I do plan on purchasing a new sub/amp but not for a few months. I would like to have something to use for the time being. Any other help/info is greatly appreciated.

is it the rockford fosgate P5002 punch amp?

if so:

# RMS (Continuous) Power: 125 W x 2 @ 4 Ohms

# RMS (Continuous) Power: 250 W x 2 @ 2 Ohms

# RMS (Continuous) Power: 500 W x 1 @ 4 Ohms

just wire the sub up to one of the channels.

if it is a mono amp that does 500W at 4 ohms (i doubt it) you just need to keep the gains low.

read this:

and set it to do 125W @ 4ohms

Yes its a punch500a2.

Someone told me that if you dont have a speaker hooked up to an amp while its sending out a signal you can burn it up easily. Is this true?

Applying the above logic to using only 1 channel of the amp, is there anything to worry about since one of the channels will have nothing hooked up to it?

I will use the linked amp setting when hooking this up tomorow.

thanks a ton guys. Its pretty awsome to get such knowledgeable answers so quickly.

thanks for the offer but i just want a single 12" sub.

I had 2 w3's and a jl 500/1 but gave them to my brother thinking i wasnt going to do any more car stereo stuff. Two 12's was too much bass for me....kickin myself now.
