My 2 15" hdc3 alum are blown after 3 hours of use!

if you are also using a hi volt preamp eq this can cause clipping. if you are using the crossfire preamp it is 9 or 10 volt out. if that being the case the gains on the amp need to be almost all the way down. (just in case)

LOL have fun the sub will only come out of the box 3-4 inches. Yes a tight fit.
To the OP if you want I can Jeremy keith to see if he does recones. If mikey dont do it
Thats what Carlton said //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif He said you propped a couple pieces of wood in there to hold the sub out.

I talked with OP, hes gonna talk with DJ about the recones and then probably come by with everything when he gets them.

I will let you know, or Mike will. btw the guy I was talkin about works ar Mr. Tunes in Jackson. I guess he's a big time box builder in the area..

I'm just using my pioneer 8800 for tuning and just the crossfire vr4000d to tune

AQ recones come with plastic shims. Only hard part is getting the old glue off. Metal chisel/scraper, hammer, razor blade, and brake cleaner will do. Once its mostly off use a Dremel or whatever with a sanding wheel to get it down to bare metal.

Actual recone process is quite easy. DJ can walk you through the steps if you can't find someone to help.

I did my first recones a few weeks ago on 2 HDC's. Bought them blown for a good price. I run copper coils with 3k per sub. I've done 10-15 minute demo's at full tilt with no issues. Give em a clean signal and they'll pretty much live forever on 2k.

I burped at 31Hz which is 7Hz below box tuning and at 4.5k per sub I might have hurt one as it made a bad flapping sound. I think one pair of amps went into protect, so a single 15" in 8.5cubes is NOT good. But it's been playing fine ever since, so the recone is still sitting in the box.

Whats that going to do exactly?
Show if its clipping or not?

lol.

2000rms per sub will blow them regardless of clipping. If he ran them hard enough.

89.4V

Once tuned to this signal your sending a clean 4000 @ 2ohms 2000rms a piece to the subs.... (an oscope would be even better as you could see the actual signal)

Why would this hurt coils?

Those coils alu or copper can handle that thermal power......

my coils were aluminum

from talkin to dj...sounds like the glue melted and the vc just seperated...500 degree glue fyi

Gimmie a sixer of Corona or LandSharks and we'll call it good! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

But yeah, let me know when you talk with DJ and we'll figure out a day that you can come out. Ive got lots of free time for about the next two weeks. Then classes start again on the 27th //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Nice man...yeah my amps will be tuned correctly this time. I will be useing the copper coil, and looks like MikeyB will help me. Also I have 2 15's in a 8.5 cubes. I loved them while they were tho:crap:

so I talked to DJ, and well he made me feel much better. Wow the guy is sweet. I will probably get the recone kit, but I was wondering how much may it be to have someone recone a sub for you? And is there anyone in Michigan that can do it for me. I may do it if it isn't too hard, but I don't want to fvck it up too
DD/AQ recones are fairly straight forward. Shim the gap tightly and glue into place. Since the leads are directly woven into the spider you wont have to mess with them. I would say they are relatively easy as long as you take your time.
