Multiple Subwoofer Efficiency

I was told that this scenario is true:

Two 200W subs is better than one 400W Sub. The person told me that two subs equalling the same wattage as one will move more air, and be more accurate.

Is this true? Also please comment on anything having to do with multiple vs. single sub setups.

Thanks

i always wondered if it would be better to get 2 larger wattage subs or 4 half of the wattage subs. i cant afford to just run out and try em both though :p

ive heard both setups among various people. it seems the more it has the more of a good quality hit it has. whereas with 2 you can hear the subs actually having to force themselves more to get a "hit" thats similar. its often louder but not as deep or as much feel-able
