$700 for a MTX 9500 is a big part of the problem. They aren't ... bad... drivers, but they aren't worth the price you quote them as. Would your friends be more impressed if they charged an even $1000 for it?

The MTX 9500 series subs don't cost nearly as much as they once did. They're solid subs, but even at $440 they're overpriced. You could have a DC Level 4XL 18" for that price...
