I am gonna be moving out of my moms house soon, and its gonna be a big step in my life. What are some things I should know or be on the look out for? And what are some tips from people who are already on their own? Any stories of when you any of u first moved out on ur own?

I can't wait to get out of the house but i know it isnt gonna be a cake walk...

Be prepared to make a lotta trips to wallmart for the first week or so. You'd be suprised how much stuff you take for granted when you move and all of the sudden don't have it! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I guess my only advice would be to save up a little bit of coin for all the uinexpected stuff, otherwise just move, and take it chill for a few weeks while you adjust to it all. Good luck, movin out is a big step in life. Enjoy it! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

learn how to do ur own laundry.

as much as you say i dont need to clean (especially dust or shit like that), you do. unless you enjoy living in ABSOLUTE filth

like was said above, be prepared to make a bunch of trips to walmart; you will. you never realized the stuff that was around for you before that won't be there now.

are you living in a dorm? if so, learn how to be versatile with a microwave, as most dorms that I know of don't allow toaster ovens or anything of that nature.

i'll add more as i think of it

are you going to have a room mate or two ? If you do, set some rules, especially about FOOD. Set up some sort of cleaning schedule, otherwise things get piled up so bad its unreal.

Walmart will be your friend when you first move out. Like said before, living on your own is a big step in life, but it is a much needed step. Take some time and save some money before you decide to leave the nest. It seems scary at first, but as time goes by it becomes a norm. Do go home on the weekends and score on some frozen leftovers. LOL

Yeah I have alot of money saved up, more than most people I know close to my age. So I dont think that will be a problem. I can already imagine all the things around my current house that I take for granted that I am gonna be making trips to the store to get. I am going to be moving into an apartment with at least one roommate. I already planned on making up the "house" rules before moving in with anyone, so the cleaning schedule is a good idea I didnt really think about. Divide up who needs to do what and by when. And the food thing too.

All the input is greatly appreciated and I look forward to reading some more.

GOOD LUCK!

alot of young people down here move out and within the first year move back in with the rents if they can because they didnt expect bills to pile up how they did.

but then again its expencive as shit down here (500+ for an apt in the hood, 800+ for the ones id stay in).

i plan on moving out with my g/f by this time next year, i hope i can....

make sure you can afford to live on your own with your current job. don't go and move 3 hours away from home, with plans of opening your own business, and no income //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I dont live in the best of places. THe first thing i noticed when i moved out was i had to get a blarring car alarm. If no one is home, lock up your place! dont show people what you have in your garage (car audio wise) and youll be okay. Stay on top of things. Cleaning schedules are only good if your on top of it.

good luck //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Everything that's been mentioned about walmart is true.

Laundry becomes a non-priority (at least for me)

If you have roomates, eat out as often as possible. Grocieries will disappear.

Your beer will also disappear.

Keep your listerine in your room, it will get used by your drunk roomate without a cup.

If you're used to living in a tidy space, you're gonna have to get used to a bit of mess, unless you're planning on cleaning up after someone/everyone else.

You're gonna have to learn a lot of self control, or you're gonna go down in flames. Your roomates will seemingly have nothing but spare time and money on their hands, going out constantly, and staying up all night. I don't know how roomates always have the ability to do this, but if you follow suit, you will probably end up jobless, homeless, and with some sort of disease/addiction by the time you're 30.
