Movie Editing Programs???

If you're running Windows XP with Service Pack 2, check out the Windows Movie Maker included. It's really pretty darn good. You can import video from different file types, edit, clip, add effects, add music, different transitions, and it has a very excellent automatic scene selection for making easier work of dealing with sections of the video.

There are other 3rd-party app's out there, but I don't think you'll be disappointed with WMM if you're "not an expert".
