I can't listen to piano anymore. I think I have been worn down on it since it is so popular that it has just grown trite with me now. The harpsichord is much much better IMO, but it isn't for everyone. Bach wrote some amazing pieces with that instrument.
In fact check out Bach's cello suites for some other really amazing work. The sound quality isn't always the best but they are just delightful to hear in an open room where the sound can really develop. Another guilty pleasure would be both the pedal harp and the celtic harp. It is hard to find recordings of them playing non-traditional pieces, but I just happend to date (and still date) a harpist who was under Carrol McLaughlin in Harp Fusion. It is the most gorgeous $20k instrument you can buy and has a dynamic range that is almost that of the piano.
