Hey guys, the title almost says it all. I recently purchased a custome built sealed fiberglass box for my e92 bmw 335i and i want to know what kind of material to put on the inside of the box. The box was too thin when i first got it so i added like 4 more layers of fiberglass matt and then a nice thick layer of KITTY HAIR so im guessing the 1.2 cubes the box originally was is around 1.1 or 1.0 now. So now i was wondering what would be the best material to put on the inside of the box to make my IDQ-12 v2 sound the best. by sound the best i mean have the tightest, cleanest, most crisp bass. Increased bass wouldnt hurt either

Ive heard of all sorts of stuff like Egg Crate foam, Studio foam ($$$), Fiberglass insulation, Polyfill, etc and i dont know what to do.....

I also hear alot of people saying if you put "XX" in the box then it will trick the sub into thinking it is in a larger enclosure? im not sure if i need that?

thanks guys, i really appreciate it.

Polyfil is pretty solid stuff to use inside a box. I am using it in my mdf box and sounds good. Ive HEARD the stuff is fire proof/resistant, but I would still make sure its not touching and leads at all just to be careful. Ive never used egg crates but on paper, it should work. Studio foam it good but as you said pricey and probably overkill. Ive even used left over sound dampening sheets with good results

Duct seal, it's non-hardening-clay-like, but is a butyl composite. You can probably add some CLD tiles to some spots on the enclosure before adding on the duct seal. It can be found in your local Home Depot or Lowes in the electrical section, where the connectors, loom, zipties are. I did something similar with my pillars/dash:

Egg crate foam for better sound quality. It smooths out peaks. Polyfill adds volume and possibly could have a little effect in smoothing peaks. I'd go with egg crate foam over polyfill. But I don't really know exactly what you are going for.

what if the FR is already flat, will it then cause valleys?

Pound for pound I'll take my resin sand mixture over concrete. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Any example? pics?

If the FR is already flat then you wouldn't need the foam, but I didn't say anything about the foam "creating" valleys.
Your statements is very unclear. How would eggcrate foam and polyfill smooth out peaks?

Sorry, I am not too good at explaining. It reduces reverberation in the box (hollowness or boomy) and dampens output so peak notes are more narrow which in turn would generally smooth out the spike giving a more even response.
