morel tempo 6 owners...weak link?

so ive been getting some distortion from my tempo 6's for a while now. i talked to lyttleviet about this months ago. i was told i had to ship them to morel and have them take a look at them and they would decide whether they will ship me new ones or if they say its my fault for "blowing" them and tell me if i want them back i have to ship back.

so, knowing how the car audio business is, i said **** it, im not gonna ship it back to them just to have them tell me its my fault, when it wasnt, and im still out a set of speakers.

so today i needed to take care of a squeak with my window regulator, i popped the door panel off and i see the ****ing cone has perfectly creased cracks that are actually full blown tears. also looks as if they glue has started to come undone here. i check the other speaker (which started distorting like 3 weeks into owner ship), same shit.

anyone have their tempo 6's do this? or do you think this is user error. before the first one started distorting i took it easy on the speakers. then when it started distorting i said "cheap pieces of shit are blown already" and would blast it (still couldnt get them to pop lol, so thermally they are good). so i dont think i was the one that caused the initial damage.

i think im gonna just scrap these POS and get me some ID xs65's...

If you where smart you would send them back to Morel.

I didnt understand when you said (perfectly creased cracks???)

if the cone started cracking or tearing away from the spider or surround then yes they will warranty them.

Some speakers do come unglued from heat & friction.

Do you use the high pass on your deck xover??

On your amp are yuseing it full range or any xover on it as well, I hope you have the bass boost turned off??

What im saying is that if you dont learn how to use/set the gains, xover, Eq,etc... right, then know matter what new comps you get you will have problems

lol, ive been into caraudio for quite some time. im not an idiot. why would i send them back to morel unless im 1000% sure i will get them back at no cost? im not sending something to some company just so they can tell me "oh, user error, sorry". hell, id rather just buy a different set than get another set of mids that might do the same thing.

perfectly creased cracks was the only way i could describe it. from the center of the speaker (where a phase plug sits) to the surround, there are tears. i say creased cracks because tears makes it sound jagged and purposefully done.

the surround started to come unglued from the cone where the cracks occured. which came first, i dont know.

ive had plenty of comp sets, never have i had a cone come apart like this.

I undersatand, I would be pissed to.are you going to buy ID comps or just mids???
im looking at the xs65 or the csx62's as full sets.

so any other morel owners had this issue? if not, then im not even going to try to send them back.

Never seen this before but I agree with you. I wouldn't send something in with physical damage and expect Morel to care -_-. Any particular reason you are choosing the XS series components? They are pretty nice, I am just wondering //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

well when i was originally looking at this last set of components it was going to be the cxs set. i talked to lyttleviet and he convinced me about the morels so i got them.

now that im in this situation and looking for a different set, it was normal for me to lean to ID again since ive never tried them. im trying to decide whether i want the cxs or the xs at this point. leaning to the xs set, but i will admit its hard to justify spending $500 on a set of speakers.

from what ive read about them though, they seem to be great speakers, get nice and loud, and sacrifice some midbass for much better midrange. also suppose to be super efficient. we'll see.

the morels sounded great to me while they stayed together...

Hey IgnoreMe,

$500-is a lot to spend on comps.

Have you heard the ID's before???

I can say it will have better upper midrange then those tempo's,it's more of a toss up, but the ID mids will produce better midbass.

I think the Morel's tweeter is a little more smoother, then the ID's

Why not go active???

Didn't I read a thread about some morel cones doing this a few months ago? I think that guy thought that it was caused by extremely cold temperatures....
couldnt be...at least not here in san diego //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

i wont go active because that means buying another amp and making room for it. i only got this 2 channel right now. my HU is a eclipse cd5000 which doesnt do any good for trying to go active either.

$500 is a lot of money. ill be honest with you, every set of speakers i have bought, ive never listened to before hand. i usually just research, see what looks good, and buy to try it out.
