with the same power and all will a sub move more in a ported box or in a sealed box?

i don't have a problem with my system or have any plans to build another box. i just keep reading people saying two opposite things. i always thought that a sub would move less in a ported box than sealed. i know below tuning movement increases a lot but other than that... just hoping somebody had the real answer and could explain.

ok i know for example i cover the port on my box, i can see the sub moves a lot more. i see you point about the size of the sealed box, that makes sense.

generally, in a ported enclosure you have less excursion than in a sealed enclosure because the port gives something for the sub to "load" off of

Unless you play under the tuning frequency, then the woofer will easily over excurt.

i know a great amount about car audio. i go to that site all the time as well.

THEN WHEN SOMETHING FKS UP ... ITS BECAUSE WE KNEW TOO MUCH AND PRESSED THE SYSTEM TOOO HARD.

PEOPLE WITH LITTLE KNOWLEDGE never take these chances, and dont care about the technicalities but what their ear goes by.

MAN ... I thought I knew a whole lot myself, but then I came into this forum.. and people with a 1000 post have a 1000 posts for a reason. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif they have been here for years , and some of these peeps live their life for car audio and are still learning.

ported will yield less movement above\close to tuning frequency. once you go below tuning it will over excurt most likely.

sealed has a relative smooth increase in cone movement as you go into lower octaves.

It is 100% related to the alignment that you put the driver in. Some sealed boxes will yield much lower cone excursion with a given power than some ported enclosure. In the same regard, a sealed enclosure could have less cone movement. It's 100% in the box size/alignment and not really whether it's ported or not.

i am deffinetly not a newbie when it comes to audio. i was just looking for an answer to a question. i have heard people answer that particular question with a few different answers. i know i don't know everything but i also know that i do know a good amount about audio. but i do come here to learn more.

just because someone gives you a detailed description doesnt mean he knows alot. im not saying he doesnt, but you cant judge him by how he talks. i could give you a detailed description on what a penis looks like, but it doesnt mean im gay. the best thing for you to do is not try and brag and show people up, but it is to come here, help everyone out, and ask for help. not to brag on how much you do or dont know. but to help people out with the knowledge you have.
