Should i buy this at radio shack for 25$? http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2117928&tab=custRatings#showFullReviews

I thought you had to have matching ground wire and power wire? as in they both should 4 gauges instead of one being 4 and the rest 8. Im hooking up two Alpine Type R 12's with a BXi 1210d amp. Im going to wire it 1 ohm to 4 ohm but my current ground wire and power wire are 12 guages i believe. So should i buy that kit or no is there something better? I have RCA's, and speaker wire, but i need ground, power , and the ones that connect the subs to the amp.

Do you have a price range? I wouldn't buy that kit just becuase you'd probably have to change out your wiring you ever upgraded. If you can afford it, buy some 1/0 gauge welding wire from here. It's very cheap compared to name brand stuff, flexible, and is guaranteed to be a true 1/0 gauge (some cheaper brands are more like 4 gauge in a 1/0 gauge jacket).

If you're sure you're NEVER going to upgrade, I'd just get some 4 gauge wire from Darvex . That Radioshack kit runs a 4 gauge power wire to a distribution block and supplies 8 gauge cable to run from the amp to the distribution block and for grounding. I don't think 8 gauge is a good idea, especially if you plan on running that amp at 1-ohm. 4 gauge would be enough for just that one amp, but if you want to add a second you'll have to run new power wire or switch out to 1 gauge.

Im probably never going to upgrade and if i do by that time ill have a new car so. My price range is almost anywhere i mean im not trying to spend 60$ on wires so yeah... I should just buy 4 gauge ground and power from Darvex?

Yeah, buy some 4ga from Darvex in that case. A single run of 4ga will be able to supply the power your amp needs to run @ 1ohm. Make sure you fuse you power cable! You want to fuse it to match the ampacity of the cable - this is to protect the wire itself from getting too hot and setting on fire, not necessarily to protect the amp since it has it's own fuses.

Im going to sound completely noobish right now but i gotta learn i guess. Ive heard your supposed to fuse it but i have no idea how to fuse a cable. Sorry lol

You need an inline fuse holder like this or this with an appropriate ANL/AGU fuse - a 100A fuse should be good. It's easy - have a section of wire run from your battery positive (1 or 2 feet) to the fuse holder, then from the fuse holder to your amp. You want the fuse holder to be close to the battery to minimize the length of the unfused cable.

Sick sounds easy so i just cut my wire at like 1 or 2 feet and connect both sides into that fuse?

So it would be like ----------------- Lol thats my version the is the fuse.

Yeah pretty much. It'll go: Battery positive --> 1-2 feet of wire --> fuse --> 20 feet of wire or how ever much you need --> amp. Then make sure your amp is grounded - the shorter the ground wire is, the better. The ground wire doesn't need a fuse.

ohhh thats fkin easy mode haha thanks so much. I have no clue where my ground in loated at right now the person who had my truck before has all the wires under the carpet ima have to find it. Someone told me to bolt it to te strut bolt on the wheel well. is that a good idea?

Any bolt that goes to the car's chassis will do. But you have to make sure its bare metal, so if there's any paint or plastic washers in the way, you gotta scrape that stuff off and scuff it up a bit with some sand paper. I like to keep my ground wires 1-2.5 feet in length, at max. Just make sure you torque the bolt back down to spec, especially if you decide to use a bolt for a seatbelt.
