monsoon confusion

So I brought my car down to a local shop to find out some information on whether or not I could keep the factory dash/cd changer in my 04 grand prix and add speakers and amps to the car, but he said with the monsoon system I couldn't because the factory head unit only had preamp outputs and he could only run a subwoofer off of it...However my amplifers have preamp inputs so shouldn't that work or is it not possible to upgrade speakers with out a new HU.

you can add a quality LOC converter if your amp don't accept hi level inputs....

well my one amp has a high level line in and I'm not sure but for now I'll assume It can do an rca out to my other amp but my other amp has high level input input also....so unless the guy just wanted to try to sell me something I don't need I should be able to use the high level inputs from the factory headunit to the deck to my amps...right???? haha maybe i'll just call crutchfield tomorrow.
