mono amp vs. 2-channel

Ok I hate sounding dumb but the only way to learn is to ask questions. What is the difference between say a 2 or 4 channel amp, and a mono amp. I imagine that a mono amp is a 1 channel amp, right? But if that is the case, why do I have a mono amp with 4 speaker connections. They go like this --++. I am able to hook 2 subs up to it. But if it is just 1 channel, how is that possible. This confuses me. Also, what would be a better amp to get for 2 subs. Another mono amp like the one I have, massive audio p1000.1, or a 2-channel amp?

They do this to allow more headroom for wire so that you are not bunching up a crap ton of subwire into 2 terminals.

It is still a mono amp just an extra set of + and - terminals.

Also you can run any amount of subs off any amp if you know how to wire them to stay with in the amplifiers recommended impedence.

the amp connects the 4 connections, parallel, to one channel inside.

mono amps are generally class d amps which are more efficient but do not cover as much of the sound spectrum as the less efficient class ab amps do. Multi-channel amps are usually class ab.
