mono amp or 2ch bridged for sub?

I have an Alpine Type R subwoofer. its the 1 or 4 ohm version. I want to get a new amp for it. Is it better to get a mono or a 2ch bridged since the sub will always be at 4 ohms. The reason for wanting to pick a 2ch bridged is cuz it cheaper $/rms than mono.

oh and suggestions on a budget amp. $100-200max

thanks

what do you mean "the sub will always be at 4 ohms"?

The only real benefit of a mono is if it's class D it's more efficient than a class a/b 2 ch amp.

However, at 500w the difference would be pretty minor. Plus - class D's stable at 1 ohm are not very common in the 500w range.

If you can find a good class D mono in your price range go for it, otherwise a decent 2 ch will be fine - and leave you with the option of moving it to a pair of components or other full range speakers in the future. You can't do that with a mono.
