Money Orders

Ok, so i am 17 hours away from winning an auction on ebay, its getting close to $200 and i just realized he only accepts money orders, no paypal.

My question is, how am i still covered under ebay if i get this item and its not what was in the pictures, or he doesnt ship it at all, since its not through paypal i dont see how i can still be covered.

I havent bought anything with a money order since i usualy shy away from anything but paypal but this is the only one on ebay and is very rare to find, and at a great price, witch makes me wonder...

You're not. You can file a complaint with ebay...but the most that'll come out of that is them suspending his account.

Other than that, you still have the option of legal ramifications....which are effective if you stick to it and really push the issue. If you mail him a money order and he rips you off, it then becomes a federal offense since he used the federal mail system to commit his fraud. In which case, some phone calls to postal offices and the police in his home town (since you'll have his full address and name) could get the ball rolling.

And actually, ebay pretty much takes the stance that they are not obligated to aid you in the event you are ripped off. I remember reading an article a little while back about two big-time ebay scammers that got caught, and ebay's statements were something to the effect of "We only provide the space for the transactions to take place. How people use that is up to them and their responsibility."
