Momentarily reversed polarity

My friend's newly acquired '37 Chev street rod has two red battery cables to match its under hood red motif. You guessed it; he momentarily reversed polarity when he replaced the battery. The bright sparks alerted him to his misdeed. Afterward, everything worked except his sound system, a head unit and trunk mounted amp, which show no signs of life. Are the components repairable or did his polarity indiscretion ruin them?

who the FAWK comes here and says some **** like that???

are you fckin bill gates or fckin....fckin...bill gates or something???

are there no fuses to check?

A future tip, if both cables going to the battery are red, mark one with a black sharpie so there's no confusion. Do it on the underside of the wire if you're worried about show value or whatever.

yes, the fuse will usually protect against reverse polarity as long as there is a diode across the + and - in the pieces of equipment (almost always is). This diode causes a direct short when the polarity is reversed, causing the fuse/s to blow. This is not always the case though, sometimes the diode itself will burn up, this is usually due to improper fusing.
