Mojo box volume??

I've built a few enclosures this year and had pretty good results for a rookie, thanks to many of you. Last week a kid that had seen my stuff brought me his 15 inch Mojo (finally someone without Audiobahn) and said "build". Most of the stuff I've built other than just experimenting has been sealed, but I understand this dude needs to be ported to really shine. Memphis vaguely suggests 3.5 cu ft enclosure, the formula I use said 2.4 tuned to 31Hz, and looking around it seems everyone has theirs either way bigger or just plain crazy huge. He is thinking he will get a MCD1000 amp (1000 Watts at 1 ohm) but has way less now. How big should the box be, and whats the whys and why nots? I can fit a big box, but he is not doing SPL competition.

Ive spoke with people that say the memphis specs on their website are way off.

Most likely go as big as possible up to 5 cu. ft. 4 or 4.5 is the norm.

mojo's perform very well in small boxes...

i had mine in 3.5 cubes @ 38 hz for SPL, and 4.5 cubes @ 32 for daily/low end.

person who i bought from metered every box from 2.25 to 6 cubes in .5- 1 cube intervals and 2.5 cubes was loudest.

i wouldnt go above 4.5 cubes personally, it starts to lose power handling and overexcursion comes into play....

Yeah Ive seen them run in 5 cu. before but no telling how long they actually lasted.

3.5 - 4 cubes. Tuned to 35hz. Call it a day.

Thats what I would do at least.

I use desired Qtc to determine sealed box volume, I usually ask who ever I'm building for to bring me some of their favorite cd's to apply my fuzzy logic to. Aside from power handling and max obtainable Spl, what would be the difference between 3.5 and 5 cu ft if both tuned to same Hz? I built a huge "max Spl"twin ported box for a driver I had a good sealed box for also and the big 5cu ft box had such a narrow range it was useless, but the driver was made for Sq and sealed box's so that wasn't really a good comparison I guess.
