Modeling clay for glassing mold?

Anyway...

I might be trying my hand at glassing sail pillar pods onto the stock ones for tweets. In order to achieve the smooth, simple shape of the pod that I need, could I use non-hardening clay as a positive mold to lay the fiberglass over?

but also - why are you using fiberglass for a sailpod

just get some plastic bodyfiller (for PLASTICS) and call it a day.

Well, if I glassed I could build out from the panel and use a larger format tweet. Plus I could angle the driver at any angle I needed instead of just crossfiring them.

I guess I could use the clay to hold the tweet in a specific location while testing for the optimum angle before I laid the glass down too.

Is that plastic bodyfiller moldable like modeling clay? I have neither used nor seen such a product before. I envisioned it like a thick glue.

Or would I use it over the clay instead of the fiberglass?

body filler is more viscous than clay. Clay would be easier to shape

I think req was saying that I should use filler instead of FG. I am guessing that he suggested that I use the filler over top of the clay to achieve the desired shape.

I did not explain that I will be using large format tweeters. They will be protruding an inch or more from the panel with a hefty weight. I do not think that filler alone will support the tweet.

I've never used any of this stuff so I can't tell you if it really works. This guy makes them look good though. I plan on doing my tweeters with this in my doors or a pillars.
