Modding an Amp (experts please)

The Phoenix gold Xenons put at whatever watts over 1-4 ohm range. For example the xenon600.1 does 600rms x1 @ 1-4 ohm.

So that would that indicated that there is something restricting power at lower impedence. Right?

Is there anyway to mod it so that the lower impedence put out more power?

Actually, there supposedly is. However, you must remember that the amplifier was not really designed to withstand continuous output of more than 600w, and the heatsink wasn't designed to dissipate much more heat than required at the 600w power level. So, the chances of causing some serious damage to your amplifier from using this mod continuously are very high.

But again, I would highly recommend that you not attempt it. The risk to your amplifier is very high. And PG will not warranty the amplifier if you fry it by attempting this.

well i was thinking of getting the x1200. Maybe trying to get 1500 watts out of it. would i be able to put a larger heatsink or another one onto it? If not i'm not going to risk blowing an amp. However i don't think i'm going to try it away since i want to run it at 1ohm.

I wouldn't bother attempting it for only another 300w over rated power. The difference between 1200w and 1500w is less than 1db....probably looking at less than .5db difference once you account for power compression and whatnot. Definitely not worth the risk for what will ultimately be an inaudible difference in power.

Actually they will still fix the amp...just not under warranty...they will want $100.

i remember something about pg strapping two x400.1's to over 2000w so who knows?

It was actually AP'd at 2.7kW and slightly damaged at that point.

And FYI the timer mod does work and yes we know what thae damage looks like so if you choose to use it and you amps breaks all the little peices are yours. The x600.1 has tested into 1800+ watts

HMMM......Any idea by doing this mod, what would the 1200.1's output be in a 4 ohm load? Can only run 1 ohm or 4 ohm due to having 3 6ohm DVC's subs. Just wondering if it would be that much more of a difference than just running it @ 1ohm as I am now. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/goodorbad.gif.fe1f80382c74d93547176ee10a15b645.gif

in the thread IIRC he did say there would be a difference throughtout 1-4ohms. But probably not much at 4ohm

Anyway is the only problem with this idea.. Heat? or is there also going to be problems with things like SMPS?
