Alright, let me preface this post with saying that I've read countless threads on the forum about JL being overpriced, etc., so please don't flame me straight up for even bringing up the brand here. I realize that JL is a generally overpriced brand and relies on the name to sell, but I've got a head to head question on these two subs. I don't want to buy subs without hearing them, and there's a slim selection around here to listen to, which narrows down the subs I'd purchase--though I know there are a huge amount of lesser known brands that I've read you all on the forum talk about that would be better priced than JL.

The shop I'm looking at doing my next install only carries two brands of subs, and for the size sub I want, only one brand will fit the bill for my next truck.

The sub they'd use is the MMATS P3.0. When I heard a set in the shop though, I wasn't too impressed with them. They were tuned high apparently, but didn't seem to hit that hard and I like much deeper bass.

I haven't heard many sets of subs as I'm not deep into car audio, but I have heard the JLs and though they sounded deep and really thumped.

Price aside, how do you guys think these two subs stack up?

I have never heard the mmats, but judging from the limited tsp's available: here I would say that the mmats would not be good with low bass because of the super low qts.

Take a look at this guide on choosing the correct loudspeaker. Keep in mind this is to get a flat response curve, which is ideal for the best sq. QTS parameters How to Pick the Right speaker for your Speaker Cabinets

If you look at the recommended enclosure its 2cu/ft tuned to 40hz, which is not good for sq and is more of a spl tune.

Look at Skar, Obsidian, SSA , Dayton if you want something that will sound good and extend low
