Midbass...

first off if this is the wrong place to be posting this somebody please move it!

second, is it dumb/retarded to run 2 12's and 2 8's? The reason i ask is because i have an extra alpine v12 600w mono amp lying around and i wanted to experiment with running some 8's in conjunction with my 12's. here's my sound stage so far

crossfire x6 components powered by a bridged v12 4 channel amp

2 alpine type r 12's powered by two 600w v12 apms. (one each)

(btw my r's are going away soon because i am about at my boiling point with them.)

i am a noob but a noob trying to learn! if i understand correctly your components should take care of the highs. frond door speakers should take care of highs/mids same with the rear door speakers. Subs should take care of the lows.

if i added 8's would that take care of the midbass?

of course everything would be tuned to meet their intended requirements.

also, i have read A LOT about 10's 12's 15's and so on but not much about 8's. Could somebody point me in the direction of decent 8's that would run off 300w rms each.

thanks!!!

oh btw it's in a scion xb2

Midbass is localizable (your ears can discern its point of origin), therefore running it in mono is a bad idea. Ditch the mono amp with midbass idea.
Secondly, its fine to run 8's and 12's, provided things are done correctly. Again, midbass is localizable, therefore your midbass drivers should a part of your front stage.... in front of you. Also, the frequencies would need to be split accordingly.... run subs up to say 60hz, have midbass kick in from 60hz to saay 300hz, then have your mids kick in from there.

Do not simply try to run 8's and 12's together, both as subs running the same freqs, both behind you. This is the cheap way, the noob way, the popular way, the incorrect way.

No, the 'subwoofer' section is not the proper place for a midbass question. Obviously. But who really cares.

^^^ thanks for the response.

I think i now have to ditch my idea completely, at least for now. I can't think of anywhere to mount them in front of me. i guess i will just have to turn my crossover down to achieve some more midbass.

^^^ i'm really not sure. a friend of mine set them for me and i don't have time at the moment to take my door panels off.

i had another thought though. could i run 8's in my kick panels in a fiberglass enclosure?

fiberglass is something i have always wanted to experiment with and if this is a good idea maybe i will just try it out.

on the other hand should i just grab another set of 6.5 components and do the fiberglass idea? put the tweeters in the a pillar?

If i were you my first priority would be processing i.e. how to get your 8's to play the midbass frequencies. What Headunit are you running?

thanks for the responses!

I am running the kenwood dnx7100.

by stereo amp... you mean? sorry i'm a real noob!

Also someone recommended pre-fabbed kick panels by a company called mfg? anyone heard of them?
