M$ money is teh gheyest money organization program ever. They want you to set up a hotmail account and have the ms money program connected to the intraweb. Why can't it be a simple program to organize your finances, and not have to be link to the net. Any recommendations, Quicken maybe? I don't want a program to connect to the net and be "available" no matter what kind of security protection the program may have.

The problem with Quicken is that the QIF format is no longer supported. Quicken has it's own QFX file and they are trying to force banks to use it instead of QIF. Some banks are telling them to go shit in their hat. You will have to check with your own bank(s) to see if you can download QFX files to your Quicken program without having to pay for the service. I haven't upgraded since Quicken 2003 because of this and it has a lot of users pissed off. Between Mr. Softie wanting to make your financial info available to hackers and Quicken screwing their customers, there is a need for some good independent financial software.

hell a simple spreadsheet is all i need, one colum for money spent, another for money incoming and a box for the total. now if you cant figure out your budget with out a program, well you need a diff kind of help

You can use a pivot table to drill down into types and categories. For instance, I can track how much I have spent on CDs using my debit card vs credit card. I can track the various ways I pay for booze and the method of payment. The categories can be easily used to develop charts to create a budget (if one uses one). I use it more for tracking and research, rather than budgets.
