My wife and I split up right after Christmas last year. I knew we were struggling but it didn't make it any easier to hear. I know it sucks right now, but trust me when I tell you that it is only going to get worse. I know you don't want to hear that, but I'm only telling you that so you can prepare yourself.

As quickly as you can, you need to figure out what it is that YOU want. Stop thinking about trying to make her happy or making things easy on her and start working on what is going to make you happy and easy on you. It took me about 3 months to figure out that being miserable trying to make her happy wasn't the way I wanted spend my life and that splitting up was the best thing that could have happened for me; and probably for her. Honestly, it is probably better for our son too because he won't have to grow up with parents that are miserable with each other.

You have to try to get along with her for your son though. Be friends. Be nice. But shift your mindset from "married guy" to single father.

No matter how much you prepare yourself though, it IS going to hurt when she starts seeing someone else. The only thing that will ease the sting of it, and I am being completely serious here, is if you are seeing someone else too. I don't know what kind of wreck I would be if I wasn't in a new relationship. I dropped my son off last night and she had some new guy at her parents house. Whatev. It's her right.

As soon as she moved out, I joined Facebook, went on a 2 month drinking binge and banged every ex GF in my friends list. I highly recommend it.

That's a shitty situation man. My neighbors across the street are divorced and still living together and have been divorced for years. I can hear them yell at each other all the way across the street still.

Had an old friend from work get a divorce and tell me the only chick he would ever hook up with again would be a def-mute. About a year later he showed up to a party with a def-mute chick and the biggest grin on his face I've ever seen. That's some cold shit to do on Christmas after 12 years. Especially emailing it to her friend rather than telling you straight up.

Something must be wrong if she feels like she has to talk to her friend rather than you first. There must be another side to the story so I won't pre-judge the girl. You could be a total douche and she has every right to leave you so I won't black ball her.

I would definately suggest that you have a sit down discussion pronto and a coming to jesus meeting. Maybe even mention trying counciling if you really think it's worth salvaging. I really have a hard time believing this is such a shock to you, women don't typically make such drastic decisions on a 12 year marriage with a kid envolved with at least some mention of the D word to you.

Do you have any concerns on infidelity? Could be some RND involved...

This just happened to me too almost the same words but it has only been 2 years and we don't have a kid but she left me for 2 guys and how they sweet talked her I told her It doesn't bother me if she left because there is always someone that will do anything for you just remember the good times and take time out of your life for your son when my parents split my dad left for a year I was sad but just remember the positives and get over her she obviously doesn't care and merry Christmas to you and your son
