Memphis, US Amps, or Fosgate

Memphis, US Amps, or Fosgate

Looking for a 4 channel 400 watt, 300 watt Mono, my friend has the fosgates in his truck. The sound is what I am after. My only complaint is between songs you can hear that the amp is on, not feedback or anything, just a light sound.

Every 5 channel amp question I have read gets multiple Memphis belle recommendations. I wish I had the room, but 20” is the max length that will fit. So I assume that the Memphis non 5 channel amps are equally highly regarded.

So are Memphis or US amps, as step up from fosgate, or are they all in the same ball park?

Memphis is about equal to fosgate. I think it comes down to prefernce really. I think RF might be slightly stronger than Memphis, but Memphis amps sound great. Memphis and RF are both better than UsAmps if its the newer models I think

I run the new line of fosgate power series amps a 400.2 on my highs @2ohms per channel and a 600.2 wired mono @2ohms to a T1 10" and they sound great to me and have not given me any problems.

I used a soundstream vga 800.5 in the woman's car for two years(just took it out because she is selling it)...but it was great. 2 ohm mono on the sub channel, not a ton of power but enough to get a good sound...and the hawkin's EQ system is always a bonus...lol

My truck is an ’06 dodge ram quad cab.

Current set up:

Front doors: Infinity Kappa 6 x 9 3 way

Like the speakers, they are currently blown, will be going back with the same, unless someone gives me a better idea.

Rear doors: Infinity Kappa 6 ½” 2 ways

Amp: Kappa 5

Blown up, sent back to ebayer for warranty, not sure If they will replace. If they do, I might try it out, but I had problems with my original kappa 5 from day one, I think that is how I blew my 6 x 9s, so I am not too excited about it. I am thinking either going fosgate brand new, or cobbleling something together from craigslist (Memphis, US, or fosgate). My preference is a 5 channel, but every 5 channel post I have read leads me to believe the Memphis bi g belle is the only way to go, and it will not fit.

Subs: Single 10” punch one in a q logic under the rear seat box.

I would like to stay single 10” because I use the under seat storage under the other seat, but I think I need to go 2 10” to get what I want as far as bass is concerned.

My friends truck which sounds real nice is:

Front doors: Polk 6 x 9 2 way

Rear Doors: Polk 6 ½” 2 way

Amp: Punch T400-4 / P300-1

Subs: 2ea. 10” JL V3 4 ohm (wired parallel to make it 2 ohm) in EBAY MDF box (the texas build)

My mind says mimic his system, it sounds great, but my heart says BUMP IT UP A NOTCH!

So lets hear some 6x9, amp, sub, enclosure recommendations!

Theres a reason US amps are priced higher then fosgate and memphis.. they are far more efficient.. they are WAY underrated.... compare the amps ir un to fosgates of equal power... not even close.. I see US amps 5 to 1 more then memphis or rockford in big soundoffs shows.. no one that is serious about audio runs fosgate on anything but maybe highs

Just buy my soundstream VGA 800.5 and be done haha....

No really though, just because you like how something sounds in another car/truck does not mean it will sound the same in yours. There are way to many factors that change things.

Just look for what you want and buy it. If you want a good clean mid/high end then drop the 6x9s and put it in a set of 6 1/2 componet set same in the back. If your looking for better sub stage then upgrade that as well. You can run multiple subs or just a single in a ported box...all just depends on budget and tastes. The box and amp matter more then the sub though.

i guess you havent heard the new terminater series or whatever that crap is? I doubt that those models even do rated.

I am well aware of the quality of USAmps. And the OP wasnt asking about comp. No one uses Memphis or Fosgate in comps really. But for daily drivers, both companies are more than sufficient.

Tell me more.. I thought 6 x 9's were the way to go but I'm all ears. I do have to admit my rear spearkers do rock.

6x9s are good, but you can not beat the sound of a componet setup. You can make a plate and run a 6.5 woofer 1" tweeter in the 6x9 location. Run a similar setup in the back and you will love it. Get an amp with low distortion rating and a decent EQ and your gold. After that it is just finding a sub that will fill the lower end how ever you want to it to be. A single 10 or 12 is great and not to over whelming but if you like a bit more bass just run two subs in a sealed box(under your rear seat) and there ya go. Should have a great sound and get plenty loud.

The down side to all of that is, quality items are not always cheap. For SQ I like more of the older amps, but most are considered rare and the price goes up considerably.

I ran a 5" componet set in the womans car upfront and rear(because stock was a 5x7) with 2 12s ported in the back and it was actually very clean sounding.

Figure out a budget your willing to work with and give the most to the amp setup and you should be happy.
