Memphis M series mids

I really like these 6 1/2 components...but something just doesn't sound right with the mids. Now that I have some power running to them, maybe it's the factory enclosure (jetta-new style) or maybe it's the cone....the center is removed to allow the tweet or a cone in place of the tweet when not used as a coaxial.

Does anyone have any issues with these or is it just me? Could be the enclosure..or lack there of, but it almost sounds like a plastic bucket at times.

I know it's not a perfect home speaker but just want some input.

Low is crossed at about 70 Hz.

Sounds like you have the Sync components. Same components myself and another local member run. No "plastic bucket" sound with either of them.

I'm not familiar with the new Jetta's to know exactly what your talking about in regards to this "enclosure" they're in.....but it sounds to me as if you either have some resonance issues with the enclosure and/or door panels, or you have having some issues with internal reflections within the enclosure. All of which strategic use of various sound deadening materials should be able to fix.

Do you currently have any sound deadening on your doors or in/on the enclosure?

The door is dynamatted all around, wonder if some poly-fil behind the woofer would do any good. The plastic pocket on the base of the door is also matted from behind.

I would definitely try to put something behind the woofers to break up/absorb internal reflections. Either polyfill, deflex pads or some type of foam products.

If the door is solidly deadened, then chances are good there are some internal reflections within the enclosure that are causing the issues.

I know there is a thin plastic encosure, not sure who makes it, that goes in the cutout of the speaker and houses the woofer...maybe about .1 cu/ft. Is this still avail and is it even worthwhile?

I will try the poly unless there is a better medium to use.

I did look at the deflex pads...seems like i'll give it a shot.

I assume Parts Express is the best place to get them?

After searching, it was the XTC foam baffles...anyone use them?
