Memphis amp question

Is their a rule book that says all class d amps have to be 1 ohm stable. I didnt know that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
Being a class D it must be efficent. That and memphis is a very high quality company. So yes it is a suprise to me the amp would be only 2 ohm stable. Hope thats ok with you.

is there anyway to get 2ohm out of this setup and keep both subs?
yes just use one, and keep the other one in the house //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

But no their is no way to run them both ,and get 2 ohms out of them. You can only run 1 and get 2 ohms out of it.

Just because an amp is class d doesnt mean it has to run at 1 ohm. Their are plenty of amps that run full power at 2 ohms. If this will make you feel any better, the memphis 1000d delivers full power at 1 ohm //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

well, I was running one dvc on there, and it didn't even get hot, I also hooked up a friend's jensen svc sub up with it, didn't have any trouble.

Should I try it with both subs?

]it has all the overload protection stuff, I am sure it will be ok.

I guess you could try, but I wouldnt. Who knows it may work, but I wouldnt recomend it.

I also found this thread a few minutes ago.

is this true, if so, I might give it a try.

this would make my whole setup 4 ohm total correct?

But half wattage? if so, I can deal with it.

None of this can be totally hammered out untill we know exactly what the model of that Memphis amp is.We know we have two DVC 4ohm subs but we are not sure what the amp is/can do.

See if you can find the exact model here and tell us-

THe only reason I cannot link the type f amp it is, is becuase it the the older generation of d class amps, the early 21st century.

It looks just like this ne http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5790465853&category=18797&ssPageName=WDVW&rd=1

but I have the 500watt rms version.

I see..

So we have a 500 watt mono block amp stable down to 2ohms mono.

We need a 500 watt amp that is stable to 1ohm mono

You can use the amp you have with a single sub and get full power.

If you wire both subs for 8ohms and parrallel them to the amp you'll be getting about 250 RMS for both woofers to use (125 each, weak //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif )

I hate underpowering subs, and I also hate not being able to to run 2 subs.

We need to replace that amp with a 1ohm stable equivilent.

Options-

-Offer the amp for trade in the classifieds for a 1ohm stable monoblock that has around 500 watts RMS. This shouldn't be too difficult because the Memphis is a nice amp.

-Sell or trade the amp locally to get the same result.

-Beat the shit out of the original seller, won't fix anything but you'll feel better.

-If you bought the amp new, return to the store and explain that its a very nice amp but you need a 1ohm stable model, they most likely will exchange it if you have the original packadging and you have just recently purchased it.

-You get the subs traded or exchanged for SVC 4ohm models so you can use the amp you have now.

I think the last option is the most viable.

I will go to my local memphis dealer and get him to let me switch them for a small fee, becuase I didn't buy them from him.

Thanks for the helps guys.

swap the 2 DVC subs for 2 SVC sub, should be np for your dealer

and the putz should have asked you before you sold you your subs

or upgrade your amp to a 1000D

a 500d with 2 mclass SVC subs really is jamming - youll love em

is everyone really that ignorant??? he said its 2 channels
run each sub wired in parallel (2 ohms per sub) per channel

He said he has the 500 watt version of the one he just showed us on ebay, their for he has the memphis 500d, so it wont work. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Well, I called off buying the dvc's(wasn't easy, guy was pissed), but I am having a hard time tracking some svc's down for a descent price.

My local car audio shop has them for $130 a peice, seems a little high, but I guess I can save for them.
