Melimine vs MDF

Though my friends work I can get 1" melimine a fair bit cheaper then I can get 1" Mdf any reason not to use it? it seems like it would work better to me ( the white hard coating is fairly strong and silicone will seal against it better its also less porous) has anyone used Melimine in a sub box? how did it work?

i believe this is the same material that gnome audio uses. you may want to ask him.
