Mechman alt, Need new shorter belt. help

So I can't seem to find the stock belt length for my 2004 GMC sierra 1500 5.3L v8.

I used this alternator (the 270a version) in my 2000 Silverado, 4.3L v6 with the stock belt.

The guys at mechman that I talked to told me to get a 1/2inch shorter belt. Really would like to get something good, (if there are actually performance differences) I goodyear gator back belts were pretty popular. So I need to know the stock length if anyone knows. I have found a few difference lengths.

Also, could I get it at autozone? or do I need to get it from amazon?

Figure out what size your stock alt is and that will tell you which belt you have. Those specs are off autozone's site for your vehicle.

Top belt is 93" and bottom one is 92.3" as they use the last 3 digits for the size. If you have a 93" stocker then the bottom one would work. If you have the 92.3" then get a 91.5" or close to that size. Yes autozone or wherever can reference/find the size you need based off the stock belt size...

awesome, thanks man. yeah I am almost positive it is stock 105 amp. What would happen if the belt were too tight? also would I know if it were just a little too loose?

what should I look for or check for?

from what I can find, im thinking about the goodyear gatorback 91.5 inch belt. it is .8 shorter than my stock one. what will happen if it is too short? the only other one I can find is 91.9 inches. but I feel like that wont quite be enough.

too short and it physically won't fit, too long and you might have belt slip...

Well I guess we will see haha. The 91.5 inch belt may be too short. I went with it over the 91.9 inch belt to make sure it would be tight enough. If I can't get it in then I'll go with the 91.9" belt.
