Meca rules question

What all areas does the MECA rules term "12 volt industry" include?

Is it just anyone part of the audio area or does it include any and every 12 volt area such as autobody or mechanical repair?

Just asking, I am considering competing but if being employed by an auto repair facility puts me in a different class then I am not going to bother with it. Either way I want to go to some events and learn but this would help me know if I am going for fun or to look at it as being part of it.

I would assume 12 volt industry is meaning car audio industry if your ASA Brake guy you're probably fine. I' am sure they have the regulations posted somewhere.
No I am not certified in anything - just employed by my family owned automotive mechanical repair.

Rules just say "Anyone involved in the 12-Volt Industry, in any capacity, qualifies as a Professional. Anyone employed by a 12-volt related business or related to someone who works in a 12-volt related business is a Pro. . . ."

Where I am just barely starting and I pay for all my stuff I do not see how I could compete with others in this group.

I may have a good working knowledge of how a factory 12-volt system works but not much with aftermarket audio.

It's a rule that isn't really enforced. MECA seems wishy washy with their rules anyway.

I know I've seen people whom were most certainly affiliated with car audio shops compete in the amateur class.

What would be the most popular event rules used on either north west states or just western states?
They're the same everywhere, just depends on that particular judges interpretation. Be ready for silly rules such as extended cabs with no back seats being allowed in the street class, but crew cabs with no back seats being pushed into the mod classes against walls.

Ah, I was going to use my van. I know I have a lot to do to it still but was thinking of setting a goal of what I want to put in it for a first step then go from there.

If you are outside the cargo area a inch and the seats are not all in and usable, can be folded down, or above the window line you will be in mod classes with the walls.

I am keeping in the rear seats - all of them are usable (and are used by my kids lol). They can be folded down though (they just can not fold down into the floor anymore because that is part of the space I am using for the box, that was there design). No wall, just a box and staying below the rear seat back.

Like this but not above the seats and a little wider.

Thanks Jeff for the use of the pic.

It's the window line that will put you in mod. You don't want to be in mod if you want to bring a trophy home unless your area is weak
