MDF VS FiberGlass

OK .

This is something that i had been pondering for a while .

Can someone like name me the good POint and Bad point of the Material .

or .

If i am using 1 inch MDF - to get a smiliar effort what kinda thickness i need on Fiberglass . - fibergalss is strong then MDF and is more or less waterproofed .

That one thing i know .

what else ?

Will the sound be different ? better or worst ?

what would be ideal material to use if Resources is not a problem .

What are the difefrent kinda of MDF & fiberglass ?

will MDF or fiverglass be restricted to building different kind of boxes , bandpass , vented , enclosed ect ect

any related answer or question would be great .

fiberglass is more used for the shape, not because of it's superior strength. a long flat sheet of fg is going to be weaker than MDF. but a curved surface of FG is stronger than a flat piece of MDF. fg can form fit and is thinner than 3/4" so it saves some space as well.

If properly done...there shouldn't be any acoustic difference.

Well if i going to build on a space - all using FG .

i was told i do about 3- 4 layer to give it a good strength

- any idea about this ?

and if i can build it in multi layer - is it better then MDF ?

or cos MDF is made from woods it got better effect with sound

i am really on the touching stone of question ofr this two material so i want to find out more .

- beside strength - how can i make sure if i build with FG my end result can be improve or better then MDF .

one example is

MDF is 1 inch thick

and FG can be as thin as 1/8 inch .

do i need to make my FG thicker ?

how thick is enough to compare by ratio ?

As jim stated, a properly done mdf box should sound like a properly done fiberglass box. It depends what kind of car you have, where you want to put your subs, is it for show or spl, what kind of box you plan to build, the amount of time you plan on putting into the box etc.

OK , here what going on .

MY choice is not FG ,

Cos i have problem cutting up MDF . and for me i can get FG At good price and i have a Guy who can help me out with all the FG work i need .

that is why i wanna know more .

The space i got is about 54 " x 18 " x 7 " ( low end ) 14 inch ( high end

I have about 4 cu ft of space which i try to juice out of my Celica Gen 1 Ta22 boot

MDF would take away .5 cuft .

FG would give me more Cuft .

but of cos i don't want to discount the result - so i am trying to see which is better .

in term of air-tight i think FG will be perfect if build correctly of cos .

but what kinda thickness i would want ot aim for or is there any ratio guild or something ?

I can very much get ths box done within 1-2 days .
