MDF Splits!! Pics*

i havent built a rectangle shaped box in forever.

There so 90's.

I use duct tape and tree sap //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

**** it man...........I thought I was the only one who knew that method.

Clear packing tape leaves no residue if left on too long ncase you wondered.

packaging tape is weaker then duct tape. but if you really dont want residew, i would advise Gaffers tape aka Gaf tape. downsize is.... $15 a roll:eek:

not DEAD wrong. Knowing what screws in MDF can do, even pre-drilled, I choose to wait. Mind you, the boxes I build are taking extreme pressure, MT's and DD9515's attached to 20.1's strapped and 40.1's.In oder to save time, you make a sacrifice. You can't argue the BEST way is to glue and clamp. I'll agree a FASTER way is to screw|brad and glue. I built a box that didn't use ANY woodscrews, T-nuts and bolts for speaker mounting:naughty: +1 for no wood splitting.
I didn't say there was a best way, but you said that screws were bad so I had to lay down the smackdown //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

But I don't split wood and 2 9915s off 2 autotek 3000.1s are still holdin strong //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif (not mine, but box I built months back).

so far, i've only had supports beak loose.

I didnt read through this thread, but i GAURANTEE that your box isnt just gonna come flying apart with some minuscule cracks in the joints, Espesially ported, just glue it up and use it.

ok, i havent done many speaker boxes outa mdf or put the ones i have built under massive strain (money just isnt there) but i do tons of woodworking and cabnet construction and i know that with WOOD GLUE (wood glue has WOOD in the name so it is the BEST thing for glueing wood) has the strongest bond and that screws (predrilled, countersinked), in moderation, strenthen more than say brads and remove the need for clamps. if you use enough gule it should fill any minor cracks essentaly making them just as strong if not stronger than before. MDF can take a lot of abuse as long as it dosent get wet. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif (left a shelf out in the rain, a bloated moldy mess was all that was left.)

Edit: oh and i have never had anything fall apart without the help of a sledge hammer!

^^ 98% true, but you need to make the tight bond between the wood pieces with clamps, then use screws to hold the bond in place while it dries //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
