mdf ring

Plywood is actually stronger and could handle bending stress better, especially thin sections. Thin MDF tends to snap if you put uneven stress on it. For mounting rings the wood isn't the primary baffle, so density isn't required. Plywood edges are ugly tho and more difficult to finish off.
