WE are going to make 2 boxes since he just got a table saw for x-mas and we have no prior box building experience except for a shitty sealed box I made(w/o table saw) I think the one Im making is gunna be 4 cubes tuned to 32-35 so if anyone can hooked me up with some box plans........moe lestsers wont show up when u read the thread

No I mean that a 4x8 sheet is a standard size throughout the industry, but it's an inch larger on each end. What's the purpose?

MDF is meant to be cut, unlike plywood which is used in its intended purpose as a full sheet (decking). The extra 1" in each direction covers the saw kerf of several cuts and leaves a full 4'x8' of usable wood. Also cabinet makes will not leave an original milled edge on any piece they use (the edges get f-ed up in transit) so they need something to cut off and still have a 4x8 sheet. Think of it as packaging, like the first and last of TP on the roll, useless but holds the rest of the roll together. As far as a 2x4 goes, I used to know the actual reason that they were undersized from nominal, it was legit.
