MB Quart DSC1000.1? Others under $200?

A colleague has a 17-year-old son who wants some boom in the trunk of his Toyota Camry. He's never had a sub. I volunteered to help him out. The budget for the amp and 12" or larger sub is around $400. I'll build the ported enclosure and provide a lot of install goodies since I have them laying around the garage.

Does anyone have any experience with the MB Quart DSC1000.1 AB amp? Realize it's not a class D, but they are available new for $175. Used JL 500/1's are $200-225. And there's a DD M1a on Ebay right now for $250. Does anyone know the stability on the M1a? Can I run it a .5-ohms, or just 1-ohm?

Also need a sub. The kid really wants a 13" or 15". I don't think he cares at all about SQ. He wants LOUD. He's been looking at a JL 13W3V3-2 at $200 new, but I think we can do a lot better. Heard the Sundown Z15 is excellent, but may be a little outside of the budget.

Any thoughts you have on a $400 combination are appreciated. Wish there was more money to work with, but that's it for now. Thanks.

Keith

Do you have the wiring already? so basically 400 for sub(s) and amp

saw a few things in the classifieds section that would be worth your while. a pair of 10s/12s should fit into the budget that could out boom 1 15. mb quart would be a nice way to go amp wise. keep a look out on the classifieds, you will find a much better price and most prices quoted include shipping. Don't go with a jl. you can get much more sub for the money if you look.

I installed a dsc1000 couple weeks ago. Looked like a solid amp. Peformed great an had seemed like it did rated power. You can slo pick up an MBQuart 15 for round $100 from woofersetc. Heard that they have good sq an decent output.

Audiopipe 1800 is under 200 bucks. I think it would be a much better choice on stock electrical. The Mb Quart is a fine amp but A/B can be harsh on stock electrical. I suggest you do the big 3 at least.

Thanks for the input, guys. Learn something new every day....like Class A/B is harsh on stock electrical. Yeah, I'll go ahead and do the big 3 so he'll be ready for the inevitable upgrades later. I'll let you know what we decided. Still waiting on the kid's finance manager (mom) to release the funds.

Why is A/B considered so harsh...yes D is more efficent but I wouldnt just cross out A/B amps....I had my GS Designs A/B running at 1 ohm pushing 800 watts along side my 100.4 on stock electrical and 105 alternator never gave any problems...

This ^^^^ A/B amps are just less efficient. You can use them but they can really strain stock electrical.

Get an Audiopipe 15001.d (or 1800) and an AQ HDC 10, will be right about $400. I don't think he'll need a 12 with that setup. Try this amp AudioPipe APF1801 Class D 1800 Watt Mono Block Amplifier w/ Remote Subwoofer Volume Control

I just bought my 15001.d there and wish they had this deal then. This plus HDC10 and shipping should be right at $400, and loud for a single sub setup I think.

I have the 1500 and the SDC 10 so it's at 2 ohms (about 950 watts). It's a bit much for the sub, and underutilizing the amp since it's not at 1. I should have just started with the HDC at 1 ohm. My SDC is loud, but if it was in a trunk I'd want to push it harder and would definitely go HDC.
