Maxout my R's

Hey how do i go about pushing my subs to the max without blowing them? I have 2 twelve inch type R's wired at 1ohm to a hifonics bxi2006. This amp states it can push 2000 Watts. I understand that this is overrated. If i understand correctly if its wired at one ohm and can push out its max. Im afraid to turn my gains up higher than halfway? I am not satisfied. Can i crank it up a bit more or not?

Get a digital Multi Meter. Download some test tones. Play CD, set gains accordingly. Do this, and learn a little about your system rather than paying someone else.

DMM should cost you 25 bucks at sears, cheaper elsewhere. There is a good tutorial on the JL Audio site, as well as a write up stickied in the amplifier section.

Good luck

Matt

on the tutorial? Lemme see if I can help...

Step 5. that is a chart for gains for JL amps. ignore that. to find the proper gain for your amp, take the RMS output, multiply it by ohms, and find the square root. for 2000 watts at 1 ohm, gains should be set at 44.7

step 6 and 7. Play the test tone CD at 3/4 volume(or a bit above your listening point) and use the DMM to check voltage. Make sure the speakers are disconnected.

Step 8. Increase gain until it matches

Step 9. turn down stereo, reconnect subs, and bump
