Manufacturer recommendations?

Just wondering about your thoughts on whether you follow the manufacturer's recommendations when it comes to installs?

For example if the manufacturer recommends that a 12 inch sub be installed in a sealed box with 1.0 cubic feet of air space, would you follow their recommendations or would you stick it in a larger ported box?

rules were made to be broken. that being said, generally there is a reason the manufacture is recommending something. there is a benefit to it somewhere somehow. but i have 2 type r's in a sealed box and manu recommends ported
