Just like anything else, you only get better with experience. I learned in my dad's old F250 extended cab. It's a bit tougher to learn in a truck, but it won't take you more than a week to be fairly good at driving stick. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

My first truck was a standard. It took a couple of days to ware I was comfortable on the highway and a little longer in town. Its easy though. I can shift without using a clutch now on most vehicles:uhoh:

Just take it easy at first.

use the friction point to start, don't worry about much gas.

Just slowly release the clutch until the car starts to move, tehn slowly give it gas. slower, but simple.

After you learn your clutch's friction point, start giving it more gas (still slowly tho) and learn that the more gas you give,m teh faster you can let off the clutch.

It's easy

thanks guys, i jsut wanna make sure i wanna buy this truck first, i dont wanna screw the cluth up or anything, but im sure ill learn it pretty quick, my whole familys first cars were stick shift and they learned it in one day so i hope its the same for me

It takes a suprising amount to ruin a clutch //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

more experienced drivers will burn more clutches than a new learner.

The key is to be gentle. Don't drop the clutch, take your time.

Go easy on the starts, and you'll be fine

Try using your parking break as a ghetto hill-holder //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

When you hit teh friction point, release it and give it some gas.

I have never burned a clutch and I had a standard for 6-7 years with 160,000 miles on it. I did however break the clutch cable a couple of times, That will make things tricky

When i use to work at a car wash i drove the cars off, and it seemed like stick trucks were a tad bit easier than sport cars to get it starting. It just seemed like that for me. I learned to drive stick in a 69 vw bug... probably the worst car to learn it in, as the stick/clutch are kinda f'd up, but its easy for me now.

Do some "parking lot drills". That's how I got a lot better at it. Find an empty parking lot to practice on so you don't have traffic to worry about. Once you've mastered taking off, the rest is fairly easy; after getting the taking off part down, go find a moderate hill to practice on. On hills, you need to give the clutch a bit of a head start; practice getting the clutch to hold the vehicle still on the hill for about a second (Partially let the clutch out)--that gives you time to go from brake to gas comfortably. Get to know the clutch and gear ratios real good and it will be second nature in no time.

It took me a few evenings practicing to get it down. After that, I would constantly try to refine my skill with the clutch to get even better at it. I used to stall a lot; now, hardly ever. I have a lot of fun driving a good manual ***** now.

By the way; if you go from the S-10 to another vehicle with a manual, expect to have to get used to the other vehicle's clutch--most every vehicle acts a little different.

Have fun--Later. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/suave.gif.858fc102f7646e678ee8af7e1fbc41d1.gif
