Do Not use complete sentences on a resume. Also, tweak it a little for each company you turn it into. For example, rewrite your objective to fit the position you are applying for.
Don't force yourself to stick to the one-page rule. also, I wouldn't go below a 12 font, but thats just me. Keep it brief and interesting, though. You want them to know enough about you, but you also want them to have something to discuss with you in an interview. Don't tell them everything.
PERSONALIZE your resume. Maybe use a format from MS Word or Works, but change the fonts, etc. Make it stick out from the pile, but don't let it get unprofessional. Make them see that you are different and unique, but you are professional also. If you are going for a job that requires creativity, be more creative with your resume, add a bit of art (sophisticated/tasteful. not clipart) in your heading. If you are going for say an office job, keep it more straight-forward.
A good cover letter is what really sells you. Tell them how you are excited to interview with them, and tell them a little of what you are looking for. Don't be a **** up, but pump them up a bit. Also, make sure it is brief, but well-written and catchy. The cover letter is the first thing they will see, so make sure they will want to keep looking.
