Make sure your system is insured!

I just changed insurace comanies for my truck the other day, and I got the idea to ask him if my stereo system would be covered. He told me that "Not if it was anything more than a head unit that costs the same as the stock one." Then I asked him if I could get coverage, and he told me that in order to insure the stuff he needed copies of the receipts and pics of the items; then he could write a rider (Policy addition) to cover my stuff. WITHOUT IT, I'M SCREWED IF MY STUFF GETS JACKED!!

So i'm tellin' ya'll; DON'T JUST ASSUME YOUR STUFF IS COVERED BY REGULAR CAR INSURANCE! Check it out with your agent ASAP if you don't know for sure.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I thought this was pretty much common knowledge....otherwise you could just buy a cheap Pyle head unit and speakers and claim they are worth $1000. Insurance companies cover their *** in every way imaginable.

theimpaler - Your insurance company might have a set value that they will cover automatically for aftermarket equipment, but it's usually a small number (mine was $1000) and you will have to pay the deductible. I had my coverage upgraded to $3000 for around an extra $25 a month if my memory serves me correctly....call up your agent and find out. It shouldn't be too bad, and it's a very wise investment.

Insurance is expensive for me. It would cost a few hundred dollars extra for the year to insure the system. Then you still have to pay the deductible.

I guess it just boils down to if it gets stolen you'll really wish you had insurance, if not then you'll really wish you had the extra few hundred that you spent on insurance.

if your system cost over the few hundred to insure it per year, I would no doubt. Just don't tell anyone about it either, act like you have normal insurance and it won't matter to anyone.
