Mags

Output isn't everything. In my limited experience with the Q, I found the mag to be a much better sounding driver. Output difference was negligible ( .1db )
Indeed.

I loved the Mag sealed, no more than 800W was enough to make me very happy...although I'm not a basshead.

I used to run 2kw to mine in an spl setup, so there is a good reason to run more //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

A 1500d is a really good match for the si mag, a quality amp with a lot of head room. You dont have to use all of the power from the amp all the time. I know for a fact a pair of mags can handle 5kw for about 30 secs before getting smelly under ideal circumstances. The average consumer should not push past 1100 watts imo.
well of course. but its my experience, that when new people ask for opinion on stuff like the topic of this thread, they are usually talking about, which one will get louder.

i wish i could comment on the SQ of the Q, but i have only used both generation mags. so i figured i would mention that if you are trying to get louder, there is no point in buying a mag to replace Q as it will be unnoticeable.

i also ran a 20.1 to my 15" mag. it handled it beautifully. i could smell it up if i wanted to on real heavy material, but honestly, they can take and good bt of power and nick will say/has said that they can take 1800 watts for burps, but there is really no need IMO. i just set my gains using a -6db test tone to 1800w and its good to go.

I think you have caused enough trouble for one thread George.

But seriously, I agree with you based on what I have read about the Q. If I could basically swap out without much out of pocket expense I probably would, but if it meant a lot of money I would stick with wichever I had.

i disagree, they will handle upwards of 1400 RMS unclipped... a sundown 1500 per woofer does nicely... if you want to gain in output i would suggest dropping a DD 3512 in 2.25 cubes tuned to 36 with 45in^2 of port area... oh and grab at least 2KW
i doubt you could hear a difference between 1400 and 1200 watts.

i don't remember him asking about a spl set-up either or else i would steer him away from the mag all together...its just sound too **** good to waste on burps
