How would I know the difference between one of the new prototypes that a few people have, compared to the last generation of mags?

I don't think you are aware that there is a new line coming out, and as of now I don't think many people know if the cone will be the same or different.

Of course I know the first generation magnums and the new mags have different dustcaps.

Yes, this is the infamous bigbassman type mag. This is the newest version available right now. There are just a few prototypes out of the next version to come, but this isn't one of them.
