I have been a fan of Apple products all my life. In fact it is on AppleII that I got hooked on computers (I still have my original AppleII with the real floppy drive lol).

Anywho, Mac have been out of my price range or could not do the games I play. Regardless, I picked up a 20" 1.25ghz G4 with inverter/logic board issues. I replaced the inverter with after market and even put in an LCD from a G5 (I also have a G5 LCD with case that I am making into an external monitor, long story).

So, since I am new to the mac OSX world (Running OSX 10.5 now), I am looking for software to do photo editing (I use Corel9 on PC as well as irfanview) and also autoCAD (I use autoCAD 2000lt on PC).

I am on a limited budget so if you have some software that is outdated but still good, I would be willing to purchase. even better, if it is free download.

specs, 1.25ghz PPC, 1.25g ram, 500gb HD, OSX Leopard

With that, here is the fun part. The G5 LCD's run on LVDS technology. The G4's use TMDS. I am currently trying to figure out a cheap and easy way to hook up my G5 LCD to my PC's GTX280. I have datasheets on all this sh!t but the GTX280. So, unless the GTX280 can accept LVDS I will have to but a DVi to LVDS converter (about $50). I am pretty sure the GTX has the LCDS chip on it but with out a datasheet i am screwed. I have the aftermarket inverter and aftermarket power supplies for the guts of the G5, I may even put a slot loading optical drive in the G5 case which is extremely easy to do with a IDE to USB converter (which I have).

Oddly enough, making an external monitor from a G4 LCD would be EXTREMELY easy. I have the perfect working LCD from my G4 but I ripped out a little ribon cable from the side of the LCD assembly when I was putting it back together. Thanks, I have gimp already. I have my drive partitioned into 3. When I first used Gimp I could open files from the other drives. Now That I use it more I seem to have lost that option. Going from Corel9 to anything won't be too hard but going from PC to mac is alot harder then I thought.

PS- re: torrents. As far as anyone knows iWork and Photoshop cs4 are the only torrents with virus that can affect a Mac, avoid those if you intend to torrent. http://www.atomicsub.net/2009/01/iwork-09-virus/
