Let me try and respond to your actual question, Adio.
Yes - actual, pure LSD can easily give you the type of hallucinations/reactions as described in Hoffman's story. The trouble is that it is nearly impossible to get true, actual LCD anywhere anymore. Tim Leary (the Cali guy mentioned in the story) has the recipe for actual LSD which he got from Hoffman, apparently, and is now under house arrest for the remainder of his life for his troubles.
Most of what is available on the street nowadays is manufactured using stricnine (sp?) as a cutting agent. In case you were unaware - stricnine is rat poison. In small doses in can cause a human to speed their ass off but has no hallucinagenic properties. In larger amounts it can prove fatal.

Its different for everyone. Ive done it, I love it, its my favorite drug. Go figure
Its a world that a few people will enter a couple of times, a slight amount will love it, and most will hate it.
If you have never done it and you arn't 100% comfortable with yourself and who you are as a person you will fall into a intersepctive hell. If you just want trippy fun happy go lucky visuals stick to shrooms. If you like deep interspective though with completely twisted sh1t going on around you then delve into the transversed world of acid. Be prepared, if your a meat head it will tear you apart, and you will the next 12 hours of you life in a hell you cant stop.
Now that you have been warned about the bad sides, there isnt a more exciting drug out there. Your first 3-5 trips will be a learning experience, then you will know how to handle the drug regardless of any situation you may come across, be it mentally or in the enviornment aroud you.
Does sh1t comepletly change and look like stuff it isnt, yes. Will you have to use your own brain to decipher whats real and whats not, yes, especially if its real powerful cid.

That's why i've never done shrooms or acid. Far too afraid of a bad trip... I'm so mentally unstable with so much unresolved grief that I'm sure it would be a really, really bad experience to do either....
Ive tripped on acid somewhere in the vacinity of 30-40 times. Clinically I'm insane by government standards. But Ive meet people who have never done drugs that are considerably crazier than me.
My first trip- 2 hits of Cartoon blotter from a phish show.
Not overly visual acid but you definitly got the really warm feeling thoughout your body, the tension in your back which is strictnine. One of the feelings I love the most in the world.
One part of the trip I was doing cartwheels through the Park in Postsdam NY and I could have sworn the lightpost was about 10 feet to my right but I was wrong. Slam, I did a cart wheel right into one, all my friends laughing at me. I couldnt explain it, I tried but I had never triped before. 30 minutes later or so Im sitting in a Gazeebo with a street lamp on over head. Everything was a golden haze, the cement was gold, my legs were gold, the walking path through the park was gold. At the sametime there was a ton of mosquitoes flying around my legs, I told my friend to look at them, he said there was none there. I told him yes they are look at them. We have Jimson weed (sp?) here in AZ. Did it a few times in NV when I lived there. That is some ****ED up shit! Never again. I have never felt so dumb in my life. The stories that came from those few episodes should go into a book.
