I find it hard to believe a fuel pump runs $2,800.

no it does that to keep the compressor lubed and to circulate the freon to keep moisture out of the system

then why only when the defrost is on? the mechanic at the dealership told me it's to keep the motor hotter in cold weather for the defroster.

I used to have the same 4.3 v6 in an 87 monte carlo. pretty strong for what it was. Eventually went to shit though. And now my A4LD in my Mazda Navajo is out, no car FTL, now I ride to school with GF for hours, blows for sure

fuel pump might not be that much but im sure labor on a fuel pump is pretty **** expensive..... i dont think near 3k but i wouldnt blink an eye if it was over 1k.

so its not running freon through the system ALL the time, just when your defroster is on for like when you melt ice on your windows
