Loud Trunk Cars?

When you say "dump the port right through the back dash.", do you mean run PVC tubes straight from the box into the car? That would work pretty good, right? I have a 2004 Crown Vic and haven't bought my stuff yet, so I'm looking for ideas.

you should try facing the subs up and the port towards the shelf that helped me the most, if you can understand what im saying
Would that setup get the loudest in most trunk cars, subs up facing the trunk and ports facing the back seat?

Not all... The CV has a giant wall where the gas tank is. Most of the sound gets reflected away, but if you point it up it seems to help alot.

As for the '04 vics I do not know but they are similar. The back dash is a piece pf pressboard over sheetmetal and foam, which you would have to cut to get ports thorugh, as well as parts of the trunk lid opening and closing mechanisim. I do not know if it is two layers or not, but I was gonna do a slot port unless I was able to hand make aero ports.

Try again, my 93 sable is a 140 amp alt.
No, it has the 130 amp large case 3G. I used to do OEM remanufacturing of alts. Trust me. I also have a 93 Taurus, which is essentially the same vehicle. 130 amp 3G large case. Here's a reference.

WAI is the largest and most noted manufacturer in the industry.

thats odd, because mine says 160amps right on the top of it, but ok

Ford does not stamp amperage ratings into their castings. The only numbers they do are the casting numbers.

Here are some pdf. breakdowns for each of the three current Ford alts. Scroll down to the parts list and you'll see there are no larger stators. 130 amp is the max OEM.

Well your trunk is shaped different then our type vehicles and we have solid metal between the trunk an the cab of the vehicle I have an 89 cougar thats my toy and it gets loud with ease.....my vic on the other hand is a totally different story...
I had an RE SE 15 with 1500rms in my vic and you couldnt barely tell, but when I moved it into the cougar it was like day and night in difference.
The 97 cougar does have a metal brace behind the back seat, i ripped all that shiat out, also I deadened everything like crazy, the back dash, under the back seats etc. Just curious, did your 89 cougar have leather? Mine does and it can really screw up your airflow.

I would be careful there, I'm sure that brace helps with the flexing in the rear of the car. In my 96 Bird I decided to leave it in, just didn't want to take something out that shouldn't come out.

i heard for trunk cars the loudest way to go was sub(s) fire to the rear and port(areo) to the side?

as far as back seats go, mine fold down so im fireing my port right into the cabin and its almost the same as if i were to have the seats folded up.theres not to much of a difference atleast to my ear

Yes what I said was the best, the sub faced up and the port toward the rear deak, an you dont have to cut anything just take the rear deck speakers out and your good, on the cougar yes I have leather, but its a brace, in the vic its metal solid not just a little brace,

Yea, I wish I knew where I stuck it so I could put it back in actually, lol... Fortunately my box exactly fills the hole and kinda helps brace :]

Then it sounds like someone needs to get a sawzall.

The metal trunk problem is something BMW owners have to deal with too, you guys might look up their forums for some answers.

are you really that dumb? Wo dont want to hack into solid metal in our cars, that jeapordizises our support, thats why we work around it with ideas like porting it through the rear deck

I need to get new pics, but anyway at the moment I have teh box so that its like a slot port is on the top area facing up into the car. |_|- kinda like that, lol.

But honestly the diffrence from this setup and the other one wern't very diffrent.. Like everyone else says this car is hard as hell to get loud.

Inside the car is ok, but to be heard is not that easy.

Btw, yea the seats come out and you have a layer of deadener behind them, if you take that out, you then have a bit of metal, but its not really that much and you can see into the trunk and what not.

SInce ur only on greenwood if you need any help just send me a PM.

I have a 72 skylark, and when I had a bandpass(first setup) it was firing into the rear deck, and with only 200 watts it sounded decent. Now I have 2 mtx 9512's with a tsunami 1100d and with only 3 cubes an with the port and subs to the front or rear they pound. Just depends on how much flex I want.

you guys seen the trunk of the new town cars...like 2000 and up.....its like 3 ffet deep!!, you can drop in like a 12 cu. ft. box.!! and then there is the shelf to mount 2-3 decent sized amps..its perfect...if I had the money to afford the gas for one, id prolly get one, its perfect.
