Loud But With SQ Too?

After trying the rsd12d Phoenix Gold subs for SQ, I realize that SQ is not all I'm after. I'm glad I only paid $80 a piece for them because they don't get anywhere near loud enough for me. The SQ is borderline excellent but they are barely loud enough to shake the mirrors before distorting.

So, I've decided to go with the L7s again but I'm going with 15s this time since I already sold my 12s. I'm not sure if I should go sealed or ported with them though. I want "loud" but I also want "clean" with it.

The vehicle is a '98 Ram quad cab and my maximum enclosure dimensions are 50" wide x 20" deep x 20" high. If I build a box that is 48" wide x 20" deep x 19.875" high that will give me 4.4 cubic feet per sub. I was thinking about making it sealed for simplicity and more SQ, but I've also read that a ported box tuned to 32-33Hz will still sound clean and be louder than the sealed enclosure. What do you guys think? Is 4.4 per sub too much?

The amp I will be using is a JBL GTO 1201.1 mono amp. I know it won't push the 15s to their RMS limits but I'm okay with that for now.

a 15" L7 and sound quality should not be in the same sentence. period. do not get an L7 if you are looking for better quality. or any solobaric for that matter. Try some SS Rl-i's, SSA Icons, Si BM or Mag

and as far as loud and clean, go with a t-line box. you get loud and low like ported boxes but maintain the quality that a sealed box produces.

IDMAX 12, if you on a budget, if not CMASS UL 12!!!!!!!!!
why would you suggest him such an expensive subwoofer when his first choice only cost him 80.00? you really think he had 700.00+ to spend on one subwoofer? (UL12, if i remember correctly, are somewhere between 700.00-1000.00 a pop)

You could check out the MMats subs, good SPL and impressive sound quality, and they love teh ported boxes. If you call them direct they are really cool to deal with, and will give you specks for box with the size you have. woofersetc has a pretty good price on them. Its worth a close look.

And I am new to this site and have a feeling I am going to get flamed for this but, in all honesty the Alpine Type-R subs sound awsome and can get loud. I've had nothing but good luck with them, and IMO are a supierior sub than the kickers.

I just wanna know what subs you have to compare it to?

Rockford P3's, He2, etc. Infinity Kappa perfect, and even a Mmatts P 2.0 sub, I have tried them all running off the same Mmatts amp in my old accord and expidition.

In my opinion the the sound quality to output ratio of the Alpine Type R was the best of those that I have personaly tried in my own vehicles, with the Mmatts being the overall loudest but yet the only one that was in a ported enclosure.

In my years selling and installing car audio I have never heard a Kicker subwoofer set up impress me for the dollar spent. I havent heard a ton of set ups with kicker, but again those that I have just seemed kind of dissapointing for what it was, you know. No bashing kicker, I feel there is alot of better options out there for your hard earned money.
